At one of my college internships, one of my responsibilities was to sort and enter my boss’ business cards into his digital address book. Not exactly an easy task when your boss’ favorite pastime is networking.
1,000 business cards and two years later, Peter Shankman came to Rochester and shared the cure for intern-carpal-tunnel. Meet the Poken:

This little guy is more than just a cute version of ET. Hold him up next to your friend’s, colleague’s, mom’s or newest acquaintance’s and instantly exchange information-Facebook, email, Twitter, cell phone, LinkedIn, BBM– whatever your heart desires. Plug it into your USB drive when you get home and-voila-you’ll never lose the email address of that nice professional you met at the networking event again. Or forget whether or not the guy you met at Murphy’s Law last night was cute. Or enter a friend’s number in your phone wrong and instead of calling Tommy from 7th grade, keep getting some guy named Bernard. With the Poken, those days are long gone.
Here’s an interview with the founder:
Available in a plethora of shapes and colors, the Poken attaches to your keychain, fits in the smallest purse, or for some, becomes the hot new accessory to wear around your neck. And how could I forget my favorite feature of the new gadget? Find your favorite here.
Stalkerish you say? Maybe a little. But the world is headed there anyways, so we might as well embrace it. Your Tweetup today will be your Poken Party tomorrow. Doyoupoken.com refers to it as “the heartbeat of your social life.” I think they’re fabulous.
So what do you think-will you Poken?

What a great idea! It’s like the business card of the future.
But that name…
Yeah, I can’t get over the name or the cartoony characters but this is a great idea. I went to the website and they don’t have any that I would call a “professional” version, but you can get 24 for a mere $300!
Maybe your boss should have invested in a Neat Receipt Scanner. That would have prevented your intern-carpal-tunnel!
I agree with Sarah, I wouldn’t be comfortable using a poken with business contacts unless it looked more professional. I’d be much more comfortable downloading a business card sharing app for the iphone, or abbyy’s card reader for the other smart phones. Not quite as cute as the poken, but more practical
They actually have sleek, simple ones too! They resemble USB drives– http://www.doyoupoken.com/web/guest/pulse.
